Book One — Expected Late 2026
God’s Got
Your Back.
100 growth concepts. 12 questions. One promise that holds when yours doesn’t.
Resilience is not a personality type you were or weren’t issued at birth.
It is a thing you learn — usually the hard way, usually late.
This book is the shortcut nobody gave me.
Who It’s For
There is something inside you desperate to come out.
You know what it is. You have known for years.
And you have already talked yourself out of it —
because you are not the one to step up. Not with your record. Not at your age. Not after what happened.
Written for the man who has convinced himself he is not the one to step up.
Not for the man who has it together. For the one who is still standing only because he hasn’t sat down yet — and would like to know why that counts.
It counts because you are not the one holding you up.
What’s Inside
It is a book you can open anywhere. Every concept stands on its own, and every one of them was paid for.
Short, plain, and built from a lifetime of living. Nearly a hundred of them, on resilience.
Twelve movements, each one closing a loop the one before it opened.
One per chapter. The kind you answer honestly or not at all.
Every concept paired with scripture from four Bible translations, side by side.
Woven all the way through, start to finish. You will not notice what it is doing until the last page — which is the point.
“Your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.”
“Do not fear, for I am with you… I will strengthen you and help you.”
“Rear guard” is a military word. It is the unit that walks behind the column — the one that catches what comes at you from the direction you cannot see.
That is not a figure of speech. That is the job description. That is the title of this book.
The Twelve Questions
One closes every chapter. They are not rhetorical, and they are not comfortable. A few of them, to give you the shape of it —
What have you decided about yourself that God never said?
Who told you it was too late — and why did you believe them?
What would you attempt this year if the outcome were guaranteed?
Who is walking behind you, and do they know you can see them?
Eight more, in the book.
Where the Concepts Come From
Dan writes a Growth Concept every day and posts it across about twenty platforms. The hundred that survived the daily grind are the backbone of this book. They have their own home, too.

Dan Barton — GRAMPS to his grandchildren — is a retired Pastor, Hospital Chaplain, and Hospice Chaplain with more than four decades of ministry across six states.
Before any of that he drove a forklift in a 100° diecast shop, which is where he learned that the common man carries uncommon weight.
He is 72, married 47 years, and writing this book because nobody handed him one like it when he needed it.
He is a fellow traveler —
beaten up by the road,
still walking,
and absolutely convinced that God has not finished with any of us yet.
